Hate – A Prelude To Crime

Hate is such a strong emotion. It is a debilitating emotion that is so full of negative energy that I wish I’d rather not feel for the rest of my life. However, I cannot just close my eyes and pretend that emotion doesn’t exist. It does and I’ve fallen to it’s clutches a couple of time. I’ve seen it everywhere – in the news, my neighborhood and in the internet.

My heart and my mind was so disturbed further by the fruits of hate and how it destroys a supposedly “modern” society when I saw several posts in one of my Facebook groups. Apparently, the social media site has done nothing to suspend, block or delete a very discriminating and hateful group with the name  THOSE WITCHES ND WIZZADS MUST DIE BY FIRE BY FORCE (Note: It’s not a typo. They really spelled it as “Wizzads”. Makes you think that the admin or whoever made the group lacks proper education. I may not be a natural born English speaker, but I do know basic spelling and grammar) and the page Witches must die by fire.

Anyway, I was fairly boiling with rage by the time I read a couple of the posts there. I cannot believe such hateful propaganda,  vicious, maligning and totally out-of-their-senses kind of campaigns can be permitted in a social media platform and not get penalized. The attacks against other religions especially pagans, Wiccans and other esoteric believers in poorly phrased English is proof that whoever is managing that account has no understanding of what he/she is talking about. It was so st**id.

Is being a pagan or a free spirited individual a crime?

I’ve once lived the Wiccan path. I even have Babaylan and Katalonan (Catalonan) blood running through my veins. But do I propagate evil? I don’t think so.  I hail from the land where superstitions and old religion is deeply ingrained in its culture. Although mostly Christian-populated, my countrymen still believes in the paranormal and supernatural, but that doesn’t mean that we’re all pagans, destroyer of mankind and needed to be burned alive.

There’s nothing wrong with being pagan or following the old religions. Old religions are usually rooted to the love and connection of people with nature. It is the basis of some of the most prominent religions of today. Without these “pagan” beliefs, the evolution of ideas and knowledge wouldn’t happen and the world might have ceased to exist thousands of years ago.

If being a witch or being someone who walks the Wiccan path is evil, how come the Wiccan Rede, the Code or moral system of anyone sworn to it, says otherwise?

Here’s the full version of the Wiccan Rede:

Bide within the Law you must, in perfect Love and perfect Trust.
Live you must and let to live, fairly take and fairly give.

For tread the Circle thrice about to keep unwelcome spirits out.
To bind the spell well every time, let the spell be said in rhyme.

Light of eye and soft of touch, speak you little, listen much.
Honor the Old Ones in deed and name,
let love and light be our guides again.

Deosil go by the waxing moon, chanting out the joyful tune.
Widdershins go when the moon doth wane,
and the werewolf howls by the dread wolfsbane.

When the Lady’s moon is new, kiss the hand to Her times two.
When the moon rides at Her peak then your heart’s desire seek.

Heed the North winds mighty gale, lock the door and trim the sail.
When the Wind blows from the East, expect the new and set the feast.

When the wind comes from the South, love will kiss you on the mouth.
When the wind whispers from the West, all hearts will find peace and rest.

Nine woods in the Cauldron go, burn them fast and burn them slow.
Birch in the fire goes to represent what the Lady knows.

Oak in the forest towers with might, in the fire it brings the God’s
insight.   Rowan is a tree of power causing life and magick to flower.

Willows at the waterside stand ready to help us to the Summerland.
Hawthorn is burned to purify and to draw faerie to your eye.

Hazel-the tree of wisdom and learning adds its strength to the bright fire burning.
White are the flowers of Apple tree that brings us fruits of fertility.

Grapes grow upon the vine giving us both joy and wine.
Fir does mark the evergreen to represent immortality seen.

Elder is the Lady’s tree burn it not or cursed you’ll be.
Four times the Major Sabbats mark in the light and in the dark.

As the old year starts to wane the new begins, it’s now Samhain.
When the time for Imbolc shows watch for flowers through the snows.

When the wheel begins to turn soon the Beltane fires will burn.
As the wheel turns to Lamas night power is brought to magick rite.

Four times the Minor Sabbats fall use the Sun to mark them all.
When the wheel has turned to Yule light the log the Horned One rules.

In the spring, when night equals day time for Ostara to come our way.
When the Sun has reached it’s height time for Oak and Holly to fight.

Harvesting comes to one and all when the Autumn Equinox does fall.
Heed the flower, bush, and tree by the Lady blessed you’ll be.

Where the rippling waters go cast a stone, the truth you’ll know.
When you have and hold a need, harken not to others greed.

With a fool no season spend or be counted as his friend.
Merry Meet and Merry Part bright the cheeks and warm the heart.

Mind the Three-fold Laws you should three times bad and three times good.
When misfortune is enow wear the star upon your brow.

Be true in love this you must do unless your love is false to you.

These Eight words the Rede fulfill:

“An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will”

So why the prejudice?

Is it fear of the unknown that is driving these “people” into attacking peaceful Wicca practitioners?

Is it envy that drives these “people” to create a page dedicated entirely in bad-mouthing and persecuting esoteric believers because they’re living a peaceful and stress-free life? The saddest part of it all is that these “people” claim to be Christians.

We often fear what we don’t know.

The whole idea behind Christianity is love, forgiveness, understanding and acceptance. But, it seems my understanding of being a “Christian” is sorely tested by idiotic campaigns such as what is seen in those social pages and groups.

Even the UK Prime Minister is planning to ban esoteric-centric websites from that part of the world,  treating it like child porn! Why? Are esoteric ideas that threatening to social and political stability? Is it fear that’s driving this proposition?

Although I’m far-removed from that continent, I feel bad that such prejudice based on insufficient knowledge in modern times can still exist. Isn’t this supposed to be the 21st century? Isn’t this era supposed to be more tolerant of different ideas? Such antiquated views and comments are so reminiscent of the medieval times and the Inquisition, where they burn or stone “accused” witches to death. With too much hate, it becomes a catalyst to create crime. It is such a throwback from a world that is supposed to have evolved into an enlightened global society. For goodness’ sake, this is the digital era where information flows so freely and there’s almost no rock left un-turned unless it’s intentional.

An ideology only becomes bad when it’s used to do bad.

Like my previous post titled The World In Your Hands, I truly stick with the principle that the person living his/her life makes his/her own choices. It is the person’s choice if they want to do evil things using an ideology they got somewhere, but that doesn’t mean that the idea itself is evil.

If — like me — you agree that every citizen of the universe is entitled to freedom of worship, freedom of expression and freedom from oppression, sign the petitions below.

Let’s live a life free from prejudices if we really want progress in land, in mind, in heart and in soul.

Petition: UK Prime Minister David Cameron: Stop the unnecessary censor of “esoteric” websites and web forums!

Petition: Facebook : Remove the page “Witches must die by fire”
