I had a couple of first-time visitors to my house a few weeks ago and they cannot control themselves from commenting on the amount of books I have.
I guess just calling me a bookworm doesn’t suffice anymore. Maybe I’m along the lines of a book-anaconda. Lol!
Anyway, it brought me to a realization that I haven’t done my 2014 TBR list yet! Although I apparently missed the solar new year, it’s just the beginning of the lunar calendar so I’m still not that late.
The first thing I did after they left was to revisit my 2013 TBR list to check out the books I’ve read and those that I skipped in lieu of other titles that came along. To my utter relief, I found that I almost completed last year’s list. Of course, there were a few books that I haven’t had a copy yet; those I would have to include in this year’s list. I wholly admit that I’m stuck with the post-Fifty Shades of Grey syndrome (because I’m a girl), not because it’s the book trilogy that everyone talked about for almost a year, but because my love for a good chick-lit was completely ruined by the Christian-Anastasia romp. Frankly, I’ve read hundreds of titles more moving than Fifty and I’m trying really hard to re-ignite the spark, but it seems that I’m stuck, finding myself desperately scrounging bookstores online and in-store for the next best thrill.
a part of my book collection at home
I’m crossing my fingers that I will encounter that elusive title this year. I hope, because I love books and they’ve been my boon companions through fun and sad times. I don’t want that love to go away.
Without a doubt, it’s the year of mature-themed/erotica romance, a residual effect of last years’ tremendously successful reception to the formerly taboo genre that I secretly indulge in from time to time even before I hit my mid-twenties. It’s been a guilty secret that none in my immediate family knows about until recently. It’s like . . . now that’s in the open, I can publicly confess that I read dirty-lit without the usual mouth-gaping reaction, snarky looks and snotty remarks I would have gotten if I outed myself a decade ago. Thanks to E L James and the wonderful women of adult literature, I can hold my head high and declare, “I read libido-raising books and I don’t care about your opinion about it.”
Therefore, this year’s list will comprise mostly of erotic titles, general fiction and urban fantasy/paranormal romances from favorite authors and new ones I’m told, and based on online reviews, are good.
You can click on the titles to read a snippet or synopsis if you like.
That’s all I’m looking forward to finish reading this year.
And yes – all of them are works of fiction because that’s what I’m really into. I might add some titles at a later date. Who knows? But for now, I have to contend with this list and try to finish everything before December 31st – at most.
It’s not something of a struggle since I’m a fast reader. It is something that people who personally know me can attest to. So, if one wonders how the hell am I going to finish all of these? There’s no need to wonder. Fact is, I can finish roughly around 3-4 books in a week. I’m that fast (or maybe someone out there is faster), and no, I don’t skip pages or chapters unlike several people I know. If I don’t like what the story is leading me to, I stop reading altogether and forget about it.
I’ll write my own opinion about what I read and share it to the world when I find time to do so, but for now, I’m going to find ways in getting myself out of my Fifty Shades hangover (which, if I might add, has been going on since July 2012). That, my friends is what I call a monster literary hangover.
