Like the Boost-Up Monday segment, I’m introducing another weekly offering …
Because there’s nothing better than to start the weekend with a good bottle of wine or a 6-pack of icy cold beer, good food, great company, and of course, good soundtrack. Therefore, I’m going to share a song at the last day of the workweek that lifts me up or makes me ready for the weekend.
As an initial episode, I’m going to start with The Waterboys’ The Whole of The Moon.
I am a Generation Straddler or some might call a millenial — someone who grew up in the eighties and nineties. As a result of this, I get to experience and love a whole range of musical genres/eras including New Wave. Most of the bands I’ve been following since I was in elementary school remained to be all-time favorites; they survived the test of time. Some bands — though — have faded into obscurity but left one really legendary song or two. For me, The Whole of the Moon is IT.
This song is simply timeless and lyrically poetic like most New Wave songs. Every time I listen to it, I tend to drift back to the past and just reminisce how easier life was despite my country being under martial law at that time.
